Travelling is Liberating

I have been very lucky in life to have travelled, its one of the most liberating feelings. Looking back I sometimes concentrated too much on one thing and didn’t take a wider view of things. Two of the most memorable things – Mount Bromo, Indonesia and a week after driving across San Francisco’s Bay Bridge an earth quake hits and some of the deck sections collapse. Bromo is only one of many peaks inside the massive Tengger Caldera, but it’s easily recognized as the entire top has been blown off and the crater inside constantly belches white sulphurous smoke. The inside of the caldera, aptly dubbed the Laut Pasir (Sea of Sand) is coated with fine volcanic sand and the overall effect is unsettlingly unearthly, especially when compared to the lush green valleys all around the caldera. We woke at 4am and trekked to the rim of the crater to watch the sun rise.
